Driver's License, Car Tags, Voting, and more! Its all here!Driver's License New residents must obtain a Georgia driver's license within 30 days. Licenses are issued and driving tests are given Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Georgia State Patrol Headquarters located north of Athens at 1505 Highway 29 N. Phone: 706-542-9928. Proof of age, residency and insurance is required. Cost: $15 for four-year license (organ donors pay $8), cash only.
New residents are required to purchase Georgia tags within 30 days. The Athens-Clarke County Tag Office issues tags Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The office is located at 3025 Lexington Road, phone: 706-613-3130. Proof of insurance, state registration and vehicle title is required. Tags expire each year on your birthday. Voter Registration Residents 18 years age and older are eligible to vote in Athens-Clarke County. You can register Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Board of Elections office located in the courthouse (325 E. Washington St. Room 260, phone: 613-3150), or register online. You can also register when you get your driver's license or when you get your auto tags.
